A community art initiative co-founded by artists Emma Meehan and Megan Roberts, the Meaning Map Project aims to document connections to Edinburgh in the context of the climate crisis by collaborating with city communities, and was recently awarded Edinburgh Communities Climate Action Network (ECCAN)’s inaugural GreenLight funding.

Emma and Megan’s Meaning Maps are artworks, visualising intangible connections to place, and expressions of community intent regarding the climate emergency – strong testaments to influence policymakers.

The Project is hosting mapping workshops and open days across the city, with the next event scheduled for Saturday 1st March, 12pm – 3pm at the city’s Water of Leith Visitor Centre at Slateford – it’s a free, participatory event giving visitors the opportunity to contribute to creating unique maps, which reflect personal connections to the city’s inner-landscape.
