Artist Mark Youd is throwing-open the doors of his home studio – a farmhouse near Kilmacolm in Inverclyde – inviting visitors to view the portraits he has created and learn more about the works in progress on his easels, his techniques and artistic processes, and the spiritual, scientific and philosophical ideas behind them.

A trained draughtsman, Mark has a keen interest in art history, and taught himself to paint and sculpt, alongside his career as a designer and technical illustrator, and developing a personal artistic practice by exploring psychology through portraiture. He exhibited at the Scottish Portrait Awards 2024, and asks ‘bigger questions’ about how we interact with our media, and what they tell us about ourselves.

Mark works as a volunteer art tutor for The Coach House Trust – a social inclusion and mental health charity in Glasgow, which is hosting a fund-raising open day on Saturday 21st June, 11am – 3pm where he will be demonstrating ‘blind portraits’, giving visitors a chance to take a seat to have their portraits painted by Mark, with the option of staying around to paint a portrait of Mark, and pick up some portraiture tips! Participants pay what they like, with all funds going to the charity. 84 Belmont Lane, Glasgow G12 8EN.
