Inaugurated at City Art Centre Edinburgh in 2023, the Scottish Landscape Awards is an open call to artists born, living or studying in Scotland, for landscapes in any medium, including painting, drawing, sculpture, animation, photography, installation, film and video, multimedia and virtual reality. This year the venue is the Kirkcudbright Galleries, and the selected works push the boundaries of contemporary landscape and reflect all dimensions of natural or man-made environments, whether imaginary, surreal, abstract, documentary, ecological or realistic.

The Awards are as follows: the £10,000 first prize is The Lapeca Scottish Landscape Award, donated by the Howell family; the £5,000 second prize is donated by the Robert Haldane Smith Foundation; the £1,000 third prize is donated by the McLean Family. There is a £3,000 Scottish Landscape Award for Environmental Art, a £1,000 Scottish Landscape Award for Photography, and a £1,000 Young Landscape Artist for candidates 16-25 years, donated by Irene Adams OBE. All awards apart from the Scottish Landscape Award for Photography, are for works in any medium.

The award winners were announced at Kirkcudbright Galleries on 4th July (see below), and from 5th July to 28th September the exhibition will be available to view. An extensive catalogue accompanying the exhibition can be purchased at the Galleries or online.
