The Scottish Ornithologists’ Club, Aberlady is showing an exhibition by watercolourists Darren Rees, Jonathan Pomroy and weaver Katie Warner: Watercolour and Willow.

Darren Rees documents an emotional and visual response to his encounters with wildlife: over nearly 40 years he has received many awards and honours, the most recent being Wildlife Artist of the Year from the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation, and the BBC’s Wildlife Magazine.
Jonathan Pomroy also places great importance on spending time out in the field, observing the behaviour of birds, watching the weather and the effect it has on the landscape, finding sketching outdoors to be the most enjoyable aspect of his work, and making quick, pocket-sized pencil sketches, building up a visual library of ideas for compositions, with larger sketchbooks to capture details such as proportions, plumage, character and surroundings.

The exhibition also includes baskets and sculptures by willow-weaver Katie Warner, made using traditional techniques. For basket handles she often weaves in wind-fallen branches and driftwood from local woods and beaches.
The Club is a charity promoting the study, enjoyment and conservation of wild birds and their habitats across Scotland.
