Cold Paradise is a contemporary art and design gallery based in Shieldaig, between Torridon and Applecross, presenting work deliberately using natural materials and subject matter, with artists engaging closely with the surrounding environment.

Founded by art historian Jamie Morra and artist Magnus Livingstone, Cold Paradise also runs a nearby artist residency (see bottom). Their approach is rooted in slowness, ecology, and thoughtful connection with place, offering a seasonal rhythm, mirroring the landscape.

The Gallery’s summer group exhibition features artists whose practices are materially-sensitive and shaped by encounters with the natural world: Hugo Winder-Lind, the inaugural artist-in-residence, works in exploring the poetic and physical properties of materials, Claire Cansick‘s colour-soaked paintings are informed by daily swims and changing weather, while tapestry artist Gyllian Thomson‘s process is shaped by walking and mapping coastlines, and Jack Whitefield‘s mixed-media practice explores geology, memory, and language.
The Gallery recently joined the Craft Scotland directory and continues to grow as a platform for artists working in dialogue with nature.
