A play, written and performed by Edinburgh-based Maria MacDonell is touring Scottish theatres, with the opportunity for the audience to join-in, by drawing or paining on-stage.
Set in an art class, LIFE draws on Maria’s own experiences working as an artist’s model in her 60s: it raises themes such as women as objects of the male gaze, ageing, private thought vs. public utterance and, unusually, invites audiences to take-up drawing materials and draw, doodle (or simply watch) as the story emerges. Audience members can even take to the stage: each show has available four on-stage seats at easels, which audiences can book.
The show tours until the end of May: then it will be part of Edinburgh Festival Fringe 15th – 18th August. A short video can be seen here.
